Senior Transitions Specialist… listener, knowledgeable, patient

sold-moving

Although I love working with people in all stages of life including first-time homebuyers, move up buyers and relocations, I find myself working more and with retirement and senior transitions.

The photos above are from a client’s Facebook post last week on the day that she closed on the sale of her home that was custom built for her 42 years ago!

As is so often the case when someone has lived in the same home for decades, letting go is a difficult process… as is sorting through and clearing out so many years of accumulated treasures.

This seller told me it helped put things in perspective when her grandchildren came over the day before the movers came… and having movers she could trust helped the actual moving process.

She decided it would be too stressful to be present at closing so she pre-signed as the movers were busy packing up her things. She isn’t sure where she is going next, plans on renting for a while as she figures it out. Everyone is different, but for her it was important to focus on one step at a time.

When we talked after closing she told me she had been looking at my cards and how they accurately describe me… REALTOR. LISTENER. KNOWLEDGEABLE. PATIENT.

Steps to the next place are different for everyone. Here are some other  examples of 55+ seller transitions I have worked with so far this year… they all lived in their homes a long time!

  • A woman who lived in her home for 47 years moved to assisted living before putting her house on the market
  • A couple who lived in their home for 25 years sold their home first, then transitioned to a rental apartment while waiting for a unit to come available in the senior complex they chose
  • A couple who lived in a highly coveted, walkable city neighborhood for 35 years negotiated a move-in-early agreement for a condo, then closed on both the sale of their house and the purchase of their condo the same day
  • A couple who lived in a stunning mid-century-modern for 41 years accepted an offer on the sale of their house before moving into a senior community, then having an estate sale and closing on the sale of their house
  • Another woman who has lived in her home for 54 years, since it was built for her… she picked the senior coop where she planned to move, then put her home on the market… she moved to her new home about a month before closing on her longtime home

Is it time to make a move but you don’t know where to start? Give me a call, we would love to help you, too!
