10 Tips to Improve Your House’s Curb Appeal

curb appeal

With the snow finally melting, it is time to shift your focus from inside your home to the exterior if you are getting ready to sell. Here are some projects that can help you improve your home’s curb appeal. If they don’t like what they see from the street, they may never even come inside!

  1. Give your entry a facelift – did you know a new front door gives one of the highest returns on investment? painting is another option that can sometimes make an impact!
  2. Don’t forget to landscape your yard! – a well-groomed lawn shows buyers that the home is taken care of
  3. Make sure all exterior lights are in working order – as the days get longer this isn’t as critical as in the winter but still shows that you are taking care of details
  4. Wash all windows inside and out – there is nothing like sparkling clean windows to show off the views and let the sunshine in!
  5. Clean out your garage – it is best if you don’t use your garage for storage after staging your interior – make it look like you have plenty room for all your outdoor needs
  6. Plant flowers or add colorful pots – adding a pop of color creates a happy feeling
  7. Remove lawn ornaments – create a clean slate that has broadest appeal, and be sure to remove anything that you plan to take with you to your new home
  8. Replace a worn out welcome mat – a new mat says you are ready for buyers… it is very welcoming
  9. Paint or replace street numbers – there is nothing more frustrating than coming to see a property and having a hard time finding it because you can’t see the street numbers – or can’t find the address to look it up
  10. Power wash any outdoor surfaces – wash away the dinginess of winter and give siding, sidewalks, driveway, patio, deck a like new feel
