Minnesotans don’t stay inside just because it is cold and snowy outside. In fact, that is one of the reasons relocation clients told me they were excited to move to Minnesota!
This weekend was a perfect example. If you heard about a Kite Festival you would most likely think spring. Well, the Lake Harriet Kite Festival takes place on the ice in January, when there is lots of open space for running with kites… just one example of how Minnesotans embrace winter!
We got there early on Saturday, before there were many kites in the air, but adults and children and dogs and bikes were gathering… all decked out for winter. There were even food trucks to warm you up inside.
The Lake Harriet Kite Festival is an annual Minneapolis event, but even bigger festivities are taking place in Saint Paul right now, where the 133rd Saint Paul Winter Carnival is in full swing through February 3, 2019. Some events have been called off because of frigid temps (-25 degree wind chill is the deciding factor) but there is much going on, including snow sculptures, snow slide and snow mini golf… check out the calendar at St. Paul Winter Carnival!
