Who do Saturday Night Live and Jimmy Fallon call when they need a costume in a hurry?

Who do you call when you need quality, hand-crafted costumes? Guthrie Costume Rentals! We took a tour of Guthrie Costume Rentals yesterday and were totally blown away by the quantity and quality of costumes in this 22,000 square foot facility. They have about 54,000 costumes from productions of the Guthrie and Minneapolis Children’s Theater which they have available for rental to theaters, individuals, businesses, schools, and organizations! Looking at their immense warehouse, it wasn’t surprising when they said they get calls not only from theaters across the country and the world, but also from television shows and documentaries… and from locals who need a costume for a theme party or a mink wrap for a wedding.

Every production at the Guthrie and Minneapolis Children’s Theater is built from the ground up by a very talented group of production artists who create everything from sets to props to wigs. (See Artists at Work.)

Costumes are designed and built by hand specifically for the actors in the production using a costume designer’s sketch… which results in amazing, unique, hand-made designer costumes. In fact, most of the Tony-nominated costume designers have designed shows for the Guthrie and/or Children’s Theater!  (tidbit: the pink dress above was designed for Kristin Chenoweth in Babes in Arms at the Guthrie)  At any one time, their costumes are typically being used in about 50 productions throughout the country.

Interested? Tours are available at both the Guthrie Theater and at Guthrie Costume Rental in NE Minneapolis… all highly recommended!  See Guthrie Theater Tours for more info.

When you take a Guthrie Theater tour in the summer you get the added benefit of the Mill City Farmer’s Market… plan to come early or stay late, it’s one of the best in the metro!  Interested in living close by? Check out downtown Minneapolis riverfront condos for sale.
