I think of the summer season as book-ended by the Edina Art Fair the first weekend in June and the Uptown Art Fair the first weekend in August, followed by the Minnesota State Fair. Long established traditions, the Edina Art Fair started as a small craft and book fair in 1966 and now has about 200,000 visitors each year… the Uptown Art Fair started in 1963 as a way for local artists to sell their wares and now has nearly 400,000 annual visitors, second only to the Minnesota State Fair which attracted a record 1,943,719 visitors last year!
In spite of predicted rain, the weather for the Edina Art Fair turned out to be perfect this year and people were there soaking up sun, art, food, music and activities for the kids… I wonder if attendance surpassed 200,000!
The Twin Cities is known for its thriving arts community and its outstanding art fairs are good evidence, ranked among the best in the country. But don’t think these are the only ones… the next big Twin Cities arts fair is Stone Arch Bridge Festival on Father’s Day weekend, but you can find an arts and crafts fairs and festivals throughout the metro and state all summer long!
