Minnesota has been called not only the 'Land of 10,000 Lakes', but also the 'Land of 10,000 Choirs'. If you love to sing, there is no better place to be! During this holiday season you can find multiple concerts every week, sometimes multiple concerts in a single day. We were excited to hear our grandson perform in his first Minnesota Boychoir concert last night at Ted Mann Concert Hall at the University of Minnesota.
Minnesota's strong choir tradition began when Scandinavian Lutherans started moving here in the 1800s. They brought with them traditions of singing… which inspired strong choral programs in Scandinavian Lutheran Colleges which still exist today, and have resulted in thousands of graduates who have continued singing their whole lives.
If you want to sing there are church choirs, professional choirs, community choirs, affinity group choirs, work choirs, gospel choirs, school choirs, children's choirs… if you want to sing out of the shower, Minnesota has a choir for you!
