Much has been written about 'Minnesota Nice', the stereotypical behavior of people born and raised in Minnesota to be courteous, reserved and mild-mannered (according to Wikipedia). ThriveMnNice.com describes it as a list of 8 characteristics… all of which can be difficult for transplants to understand and transition in spite of the fact that Minnesota is a terrific place to live.
That is why I picked up on an Opinion Exchange in the StarTribune from a man who moved here from California to be closer to family. He said that as his sister consistently asked him about his impressions, she pointed out to him that he was describing nearly everything as 'nice'… the people he met, the places he went, the light rail, buses, etc.
He isn't a typical transplant, and his experience has been… 'nice'. Read more about it in the StarTribune, 'My Nice introduction to 'Minnesota Nice'.
