10 things to love about the Minneapolis Bryn Mawr neighborhood

When I asked a client to give me a list of 10 things he liked about living in Bryn Mawr it didn't take him long to come up with this list!

1. Convenience to downtown Minneapolis

A neighborhood shaped as uniquely as its character, it is hard to get a location more convenient to downtown Minneapolis than Bryn Mawr. The Penn Avenue entrance to I-394 gives easy access to everywhere. But even better if your destination is downtown, avoid the freeway crush and come in through the back door on Cedar Lake Road to Glenwood Avenue straight to the Farmer’s Market, Target Field and the rest of downtown.

2. Great businesses

The corner of Cedar Lake Road and Penn Avenue South is the heart of the business district… it even includes a gasoline service station. Stop in at Cuppa Java and meet the neighbors!

3. Near Theodore Wirth Parkway, baseball/soccer fields, and I-394

Theodore Wirth Parkway on the west side of Bryn Mawr is a beautiful alternate travel route, but the park itself is the real treasure. The largest park in the Minneapolis park system (did you know the Minneapolis Park System has been named #1 in the nation?!), Theodore Wirth Park is almost the size of New York City’s Central Park and includes extensive trails, a 3700-year-old quaking bog, a wildflower and bird sanctuary, a swimming beach, a golf course, ski trails, tubing hill… simply amazing.

The large open park with ballfields and views of the Minneapolis skyline are on the east side, along with access to Kennilworth Trail which connects both to Downtown and the Chain of Lakes.

4. Variety of home styles

Bryn Mawr was one of the first Minneapolis neighborhoods promoted as a ‘garden suburb’ in the 1800s because of its close proximity to lakes and natural beauty. Many early residents were from Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, with a strong Welsh influence. Today the great diversity of housing styles reflects its long history… with styles ranging from Victorians to tudors, colonials, bungalows, ramblers and contemporaries.

5. Gardens everywhere

From parks to front and back yards to boulevards, you can find lush gardens almost wherever you turn in Bryn Mawr. Their 2016 Garden Tour will be July 16, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, with 12 beautiful, unique gardens.

6. Proud residents

7. All ages

8. High voter turn-out

9. Good schools and teachers

10. GREAT neighbors
