Adele’s… serving fresh frozen custard in Minnetonka lake country since 1988

Adele's has been serving fresh, homemade frozen custard since 1988, and it still has the charm of a small lakeside hometown shop. Closed for the winter, its opening is a sure sign of spring… which is a good time to come, before the crowds of summer.

Adeles frozen custard

Sunday afternoon was a great time to stop… not crowded, with room to sit and chat a spell without feeling rushed. I was hoping we would get chocolate raspberry truffle, which they serve every other Sunday… but we hit the 'other' week. What we got, however, was still rich, creamy and delicious… a heavenly blending of custard and soft serve.

They have over 90 flavors, but because of their dedication to serving only the freshest, they only make a few flavors onsite each day… check their online calendar if you are looking for a particular flavor.

I confess to being a homemade ice cream lover… so what is the difference between ice cream and frozen custard? According to Adele's website, the base for ice cream is basically cream, milk and sugar… custard adds egg yolk to the base. The process of making ice cream whips air INTO the ingredients. When custard is made, air is whipped OUT, giving frozen custard its smooth, velvety rich texture.
