This has been a brutal week, racing to be the first one in to see new listings… then racing to be the first offer… then racing to get the winning bid, writing more than one offer a day some days. It can be exhausting and frustrating for buyers and Realtors alike.
One example with a happy ending this week was a buyer who currently lives in Iowa, wanting to buy a condo in downtown Minneapolis to move closer to family. We started the search when she came up for a tour and to meet with a lender a couple months ago. She didn't find the right condo that weekend, but she and her daughter who lives in Minneapolis diligently continued to look at new possibilities every day as soon as they hit the market, waiting for the right unit to come on the market.
That happened on Tuesday. The daughter called her mother about a new listing at 11:27 am, then she contacted me to set up a showing for 3:00 that afternoon. At 3:40 she called her mother to let her know this could be 'the one' and her mother immediately started the 4-hour drive to the Twin Cities.
After numerous calls we couldn't get a second showing that night, but did secure a showing for the following morning. I came prepared with a purchase agreement ready for signing… which we did before we even left the building, the first offer. Of course another offer from another buyer followed, and we modified her offer… and she was lucky to secure the winning bid… followed by shouts of jubilation!
It truly did feel like an exhausting race… she told me that she hardly got any sleep for two nights straight… then laid down when she got home in the afternoon… and woke up 4 hours later!
Buying a house in today's market isn't for the faint of heart. It can feel like you are running a race… but there is nothing quite like the exhilaration of getting the winning bid and the home of your dreams!
