You only have to stick your nose out your front door to realize that winter has really arrived! The Marjorie McNeely Conservatory in St. Paul's Como Park is a great place to forget about the cold, and here are a couple great excuses to plan a visit…their free 'Music Under Glass' winter music series most Sundays 4:30-6:30… and the upcoming Winter Carnival Orchid Show January 24-25, 2014 during the St. Paul Winter Carnival.
I love how the sunken garden feels like a winter ice palace… and with short winter days, it has an ethereal glow as the sun sets during the Sunday concerts. (see music series photos from StarTribune)
The annual Winter Carnival Orchid Show can almost make you forget it is the middle of winter… this year January 24-25 from 10 to 4… $5 for adults, $3 for children.
The Como Park Conservatory opened in 1915 and is open 365 days a year. Admission is free to both the Conservatory and adjoining Como Park Zoo, but guests are invited to make a voluntary contribution of $2 for adults and $1 for children to help care for the plants and animals. They have nearly 2 million visitors each year.
