With many Baby Boomers planning to continue working into 'retirement', job market conditions played a role in identifying top metro areas attractive to relocating Baby Boomer buyers in a recent study by the National Association of Realtors.
It's pretty obvious what part of the country is leading based on the map above from the National Association of Realtors… Florida looks ready to explode!
Other factors considered were cost of living, population trends, housing afforadability, and housing inventory… as well as state taxes, share of expenditures for public welfare, hospitals, health, police proptection, and parks and recreation.
According to the study, the top markets expected to attract an influx of Baby Boomer buyers are:
- Albuquerque, New Mexico
- Boise, Idaho
- Denver, Colorado
- Fort Myers, Florida
- Greenville, South Carolina
- Orlando, Florida
- Phoenix, Arizona
- Raleigh, North Carolina
- Sarasota, Florida
- Tucson, Arizona
Even though weather wasn't mentioned in the list of criteria, locations with sunnier weather were clearly the winners. It's not surprising that Minneapolis/St. Paul didn't make the list of top cities, especially at this time of year… although we do consistently rank high as a good place for seniors.
