Victory 44, a gastro pub and restaurant in North Minneapolis, has been racking up awards, including… City Pages Best Burger in 2011 and Best Dessert in 2012… and Heavy Table gave their Sunday brunch menu rave reviews in 2013.
In their own words, they serve a "constantly evolving contemporary menu using seasonal, fresh, and phenomenal produce". But what remains constant is their love of pork, and their wonderful "Perfect Burger"… which gets its richness and juiciness from a blend of ground beef and ground pork… and its distinctive flavor from icebox pickles made from a family recipe, thin crispy bacon, and slices of American cheese. The importance of the bun is not to be overlooked, and Victory 44's brioche-like buns come from the amazing Rustica bakery in South Minneapolis. Victory 44 is located in the heart of the Victory Neighborhood business district, not far from tree-lined Victory Memorial Parkway… and part of the Minneapolis Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway. I think of this tree-lined parkway commemorating World War I veterans as a North Minneapolis version of Minnehaha Parkway in South Minneapolis, complete with charming tudors lining the parkway and nearby streets in the Victory neighborhood.
