Wednesdays Unplugged – Easiest Appetizer Ever

"I'm just a kid – I've got a lot of stuff to do yet ." ~ Clint Eastwwod

NOTE: I spend my Wednesdays Unplugged
from appointments. It's my day to stay home, enjoy cooking and welcome
our kids and grandkids for dinner in the evening. We end our meal with
quotes from the Norwegian 'Quote Cup' passed on to me from my
grandmother. I share a quote and a recipe here each week, and sometimes
some photos of family fun. I love trying new recipes…and love getting
recipes you would like to share!

BaeslersWe spent some time with dear 'forever' friends visiting from California on Labor Day. Both my husband and Ron are retiring later this year… and both have 'a lot of stuff to do yet'. It will be fun to see what unfolds for them.  It was a cool, dry, glorious day when a sweater felt good… hard to believe that we were sweltering in record-breaking heat the week before.

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

This week's recipe isn't a really recipe… just a reminder of what a wonderful appetizer (or dessert) a wonderful cheese makes. Our family's all-time favorite is an award-winning white cheddar from Milton Creamery in Iowa… guaranteed to quickly disappear whenever I set it out. At first I served it with crackers but no one bothers to eat it with crackers any more… why dilute the wonderful flavor of the cheese!  Another outstanding cheese, although overshadowed by Prairie Breeze with our family, is an award-winning cheese from Wisconsin. Both are also delicious with apples.

EASIEST APPETIZER EVER

Cheese1PRAIRIE BREEZE White Cheddar, Milton Creamery

"Prairie Breezeâ„¢ is our twist on a well-aged white Cheddar style cheese, aged for a minimun of 9 months, made with Vegetarian Rennet and no added color. Sweeter than your typical cheddar with lots of flavor, crumbly yet creamy with a little crunch from the calcium crystals developed during the aging process."

BELLAVITANO GOLD RESERVE, Sartori

"A Sartori-family original, this rich, creamy cheese with its nutty, fruity flavor is also — in all modesty — a celebrated gold-medal winner. Inspired by traditional, Italian farmstead cheese, BellaVitano Gold begins in the mouth like a premium Parmesan and finishes in award-winning style with hints of melted butter. This is where our artisan cheesemaking first began to shine."
