There aren't that many Twin Cities area restaurants situated right on a lake… Lola's Lake House is one of them. Located on Lake Waconia, about 45 minutes southwest from downtown Minneapolis, this charming restaurant has a New England flair both in menu and atmosphere.
We have been planning a trip to Lola's for some time and finally made it not long ago to celebrate a couple special birthdays. There were four of us and we each ordered a different entree… all delicious. I expected the setting to be wonderful, but the food was better and the menu more creative than I expected. We had shrimp carbonara, moroccan beef kabobs, cast iron seafood stew pot and lobster & shrimp pie… shared flatbread and walleye cakes for appetizers. There was great variety on the menu, also including stone-fired pizza and burgers.
We sat inside, with only screens separating us from the outside deck right on the lake. If you are looking for lakeside dining in a relaxed small town lake setting, check it out… what can be more Minnesotan than experiencing a slice of life on a lake? It's not too far past the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum… next time you visit, consider venturing a bit further to Lolas' Lake House!
