Wednesdays Unplugged – Hot Cinnamon Orange Apple Cider

"One of the most glorious messes in the world is the mess created in the living room on Christmas Day. Don't clean it up too quickly." ~ Andy Rooney

NOTE: I spend my
Wednesdays Unplugged from appointments. It's my day to stay home, enjoy cooking and welcome our kids and grandkids for dinner in the evening. We end our meal with quotes from the Norwegian 'Quote Cup' passed on to me from my grandmother. I share a quote and a recipe here each week, and sometimes some photos of family fun. I love trying new recipes…and love getting recipes you would like to share
We had a glorious mess last week as our young grandkids made Christmas ornaments and our 14-year-old granddaughter took pictures of them. It involved a lot of concentration… and silliness!

Tis the season for hot cider… this cider from is infused with cinnamon and orange flavors, not too sweet.
  • Cider-orange cinnamon1 gallon apple cider

  • 6 ounce box Red Hots
  • 6 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 2 large oranges

Slice one of the oranges into thin slices, zest and squeeze the other orange. Add cider, Red Hots, cinnamon stickes, cloves, orange juice and zest to a large pot. Top with orange slices. Simmer on low for about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
