When I was showing condos near the east bank riverfront in downtown Minneapolis recently a woman rushed in to join us on the elevator clutching a jar of jam.
We chatted with her and she said she had lived there about three years and loves it… loves the building, the people, the location, the views… not a surprise with some of the most spectacular views in the metro area!
But she said what she loved most about living there was being only a couple blocks from a Lunds grocery store. Her presence with us on the elevator that morning was testament to that fact… she was out of jam that morning and simply ran out the door and down the street to pick up a jar. When we met her she wasn't carrying any kind of bag… just a jar of jam!
This is a prime example of how important a role walkability is playing in quality of life for many people. Looking at the map you can see why this Nicollet Island-East Bank neighborhood happens to be a walker's paradise… with a walk score of 91!
