It has been so much fun watching our son delight in nurturing and starting his own tomato plants for a number of years now. Each year the number and variety seems to grow, and last year he grew over a dozen varieties of delicious tomatoes.
The excitement starts at the end of winter, when he plants his seeds (many of them saved from his tomatoes the year before) and places them under grow lamps in his basement. It is so fun to hear and see his passion as he watches them grow. I think he must have inherited some farming genes from my farmer father and farmer great-grandfathers on both sides!
When his homegrown tomato plants reached a quanitity where their son took a wagon full of them and walked around the neighborhood asking people if they would take any of his dad's tomato plants it seemed time to get more serious about it.
So… this year he is officially offering his tomato plants for sale… for $2 each!
