In the words of Mark Twain, "Climate is what we expect, weather is what we get." Weather in the Twin Cities is a central character in our sense of place… and a changeable one at that. With temperatures over 50 degrees on Wednesday this week and snow piles starting to sink it was easy to start thinking spring.
But not so fast. Some of the worst storms come at the beginning and end of winter… and here we go again. The nice thing about storms at this time of year, especially after a warm spell, is we have hope that the snow won't stay around too much longer. Frankly, I love snow storms any time… especially since we now live in a townhome and someone else does the digging out!
I think some of the most beautiful snowfalls happen at the beginning and end of the season, when the snow is heavy and full of moisture. The snow clings to the tree branches and soaks into the bark on the tree trunks, creating such wonderful contrasts and a fairy-land environment.
If you are thinking about relocating to the Twin Cities, expect that weather won't necessarily be what you expect. That is one of the things I love about living here… weather plays such an active role in our sense of place.
If you really don't like the thought of dealing with digging out from mounds of snow, or are simply tired of it, a townhouse or condo may be worth consideration… many associations even clear your front step!
