Wednesdays Unplugged – Hot Cranberry-Apple Cider

NOTE: I spend my Wednesdays Unplugged from appointments. It's my day to stay home, enjoy cooking and welcome our kids and grandkids for dinner in the evening. We end our meal with quotes from the Norwegian 'Quote Cup' passed on to me from my grandmother. I share a quote and a recipe here each week, and sometimes some photos of family fun. I love trying new recipes…and love getting recipes you would like to share!

QuotecupQUOTE OF THE WEEK

"Share everything. Don't take things that aren't yours. Put things back where you found them." ~ Robert Fulguhm

Sharing and going viral has taken on a whole new meaning in our family these last couple weeks. A flu bug has worked its way through our son's family… through his wife's family… through our house… and has now moved on to our daughter's house. Enough of the sharing already! Sooo… no family dinner tonight, we are taking a week off to hopefully eradicate the virus from our midst!

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

Our daughter hosted Thanksgiving last week and asked me for my hot cranberry-cider recipe… time to post it. This is an old standby which I haven't made in quite awhile. I think today's tastes can proabably do without the sugar, but here is the original recipe… originally called 'Hot Percolator Punch' because it is made in a 30-cup coffee maker.

HOT CRANBERRY-APPLE CIDER

recipe from Carolyn Hensrud

Use a 30-cup coffee pot.

Combine juices in pot:

  • 1 1/2 quarts cranberry juice
  • 2 quarts apple cider

Place in basket:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons whole cloves

Brew through cycle. Remove basket before serving.
