Wondering how you compare to other buyers?

J0446477 If you are a home buyer, or thinking about becoming one, you may wonder how you stack up compared to other buyers. Here are some statistics recently released about 2009 buyers I found interesting…

  • 49% of Minnesota buyers were first-time home buyers, US average 47%
  • 90% of buyers searched online
  • Typical buyer searched for 12 weeks and viewed 12 homes
  • Median age of Minnesota buyers was 33 years, lower than the national average of 39 (MN breakdown below)
  • 18 to 24 years – 10%
  • 25 to 34 years – 46%
  • 35 to 44 years – 17%
  • 45 to 54 years – 15%
  • 55 to 64 years – 8%
  • 65 to 74 years – 3%
  • 75+ years – 2%
  • About 2/3 of Minnesota buyers were couples, down from about 3/4 a decade ago, but 61% of Minnesota buyers had no children under 18 living at home (MN breakdown below)
  • 55% – married couple
  • 23% – single female
  • 10% – single male
  • 11% – unmarried couple
  • 1% – other

More singles are buying than ever, now accounting for about 1/3 of all buyers…and Minnesota has a higher percentage of young buyers age 18-24 years than other parts of the country.

It may be fun to compare, but remember that what really matters is what is right for you. When you are ready to buy, I am here to help!
