When my assistant suggested I stop at Franklin Street Bakery on my way back from an appointment last week I thought, yummm…any day is a good day for a stop at this enticing bakery voted Best Bakery numerous times by the readers of City Pages! From delicious breads to delectable cakes and pastries, it is a longtime favorite in our household.
Located at the corner of Franklin and 11th in South Minneapolis, Franklin Street Bakery is both a wholesale operation supplying the finest local eateries and hotels and a retail operation. The wonderful aromas welcoming you as you enter this neighborhood retail store may remind you of a bygone era, and its unusual design with windows open to the bakery itself remind you that everything is made fresh onsite…not standard grocery store fare!
Part of Cuisine Concepts, Franklin Street Bakery started as an in-house bakery but moved to a separate location in South Minneapolis in 1994 to accommodate growing demand. Their first retail operation opened in 1998 in the expansive Marketplace in the lower level of Macy's downtown Minneapolis and they introduced personal gourmet pizzas in 2001. Franklin Street Bakery moved to its new building at their current location in 2003, demonstrating their strong commitment to combine business with contributing to community.
