Sunday’s Site – TCF Bank Stadium, University of Minnesota

It was a perfect day for opening night at the new TCF Bank Stadium at the University of Minnesota yesterday. After nearly 30 years playing their home games off-site in the Metrodome, about 50,000 people celebrated their return to both the campus and the outdoors at the season opener…with a 20-13 win against AirForce!

As I drove through campus on my way home from showing houses a few hours before the game yesterday the streets were streaming with people dressed in maroon and gold, and tailgaters were also out in full force. I wasn't one of those with a ticket, but I would have stopped to soak in the atmosphere if there had been anywhere to park. As it was, I had to settle for snapping some photos from the window of my car.

Visit their official site for a virtual tour of this sumptuous new $288.5 million stadium. It looked mighty impressive driving by…not only the stadium itself, but the giddy spirit of unity and pride everywhere you looked, with nearly everyone adorned in maroon and gold. Even the AirForce coach was impressed, quoted as saying ""Phenomenal atmosphere for college football. They've got something here that's pretty darn neat and really special."
