Sunday’s Site – St. Anthony Park

NOTE: see the bottom of Sunday's Site posts for homes for sale in the area

St. Anthony Park (not to be confused with St. Anthony Village) is a delightful neighborhood situated between downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul, Minnesota. Officially part of St. Paul, it was orginally developed in the 1880's as estates for the wealthy of Minneapolis with rolling hills and large, irregular lots. Although the neighborhood is now diverse, it still retains its roots, giving it a charming, unique feel. It is nestled between the University of Minnesota St. Paul campus and Luther Seminary, by the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.

The neighborhood is anchored by their Carnegie Library, an icon of the community built in 1917 and on the National Register of Historic Places. A 1999 addition houses the children's section, one of the largest in St. Paul. In fact, this branch is the third busiest of all St. Paul librairies. It is located at the heart of the business district, which includes Muffeletta restaurant with its delicious made from scratch cooking and the home of the original Bibelot shop.

At the northern edge of the community is University Grove, developed on land owned by the University of Minnesota and set aside for faculty and staff to build custom homes designed by an architect. Upper limits were placed on cost, resulting in a cohesive community of unique homes showcasing 20th century American architecture. These homes still must be marketed initially to University employees for the first 3 months, then is opened to the general public if not sold during that time.
