Twin Cities Regional Parks get more visitors than the Mall of America!

Love living connected to nature with opportunities for outdoor recreation and just plain fun? It is hard to find a metropolitan area more committed to parks and trails than the Twin Cities!

Not only is the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board ranked the #1 Urban Park System by the Trust for Public Land, the Twin Cities metropolitan area is home to 53 regional parks and park reserves, and more than 340 miles of interconnected trails. The regional park system gets more than 48,000,000 visits each year… more than the Mall of America!

Three Rivers Park District manages a large share of the area regional parks… almost 27,000 acres of park reserves including 25 parks and 17 trails in the west/suburban Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area.

We stopped at French Regional Park with our grandkids last weekend. A longtime favorite with our family, this park was named after Clifton E. French, the first superintendent of Three Rivers Park District, serving 1961-1984.

Each park has its own unique features and I think of French Park as the climbing net playground. Both great fun and a great workout for a wide range of ages, it is always a hit! We have celebrated many birthdays in this park. French Park also has abundant picnic grounds, trails, swimming beach, boating and more. And don't assume just because it is winter the parks close down in Minnesota… that's when trails are open for cross country skiing!
