Don’t miss Sky Pesher at Minneapolis Sculpture Garden & Wurtele Upper Garden

The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden and Walker Art Center‘s Wurtele Upper Garden are prime examples of two of our cherished resources… the arts and the Minneapolis Park System, which is consistently ranked #1 in the nation.

The iconic Spoonbridge & Cherry by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje Van Bruggen is one of most photographed symbols of Minneapolis. I love the addition of Katharina Fritsch’s blue rooster which I suspect will become another readily identifiable symbol of the Minneapolis sculpture garden.

The functional sculpture of Siah Armanjani’s bridge connecting the sculpture garden to Loring Park against the backdrop of the Minneapolis skyscape is another one of my favorites, peeking behind Mark Manders’ new September Room with two reclining figures in the photo below.

But another of my favorites, James Turrell’s Sky Pesher, 2005,  is one that is easy to miss because it is opposite the park… tucked away in the hill behind the Walker patio cafe in the Wurtele Upper Garden.

This subterranean room is a perfect place to pause and watch the clouds drifting by. Check out this hidden treasure next time you visit Walker Art Center.
