Breakfast, breakfast everywhere, where to stop today? 6 of our favorite breakfast stops

Breakfast in the Twin Cities is fabulous… and John is a breakfast lover so we stop often! We are constantly criss-crossing the metro and try new places whenever we can to see what we can discover.

There are so many fabulous breakfast stops it would be impossible to make a complete list of our favorites and we aren’t trying to compete with the many other ‘best’ lists out there which also include many of our favorites, such as Al’s Breakfast, Key’s CafĂ© , the Hen House, Fat Nat’s Eggs, French Meadow Bakery & CafĂ©, Hell’s Kitchen, the Egg & I, Birchwood CafĂ©, Hazel’s, Zumbro, etc…

This list is simply some of the more serendipitous stops that are not as well known we have made over the years that have brought smiles to our faces and tummies (and yes, these have won awards and have also been mentioned on other lists)!

Good Day Café, 5410 Wayzata Boulevard Golden Valley, MN 55416, (763) 544-0205

This one is close to home and a go-to favorite… always busy, and for good reason… everything is handmade and delicious… a favorite stop for business meetings, noisy for optimal privacy and not worrying about someone from the next table listening in on your conversation… no breakfast reservations, but you can call and put your name on the list when you are on your way, especially recommended for groups… John recommends Harvey’s Corned Beef Hash, Sharlene suggests Iggy’s Fried Egg Sandwich

Blackbird Café , 3800 Nicollet Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55409, (612) 823-4790, www.blackbirdmpls.com

Located in the Minneapolis Kingfield neighborhood known for its plethora of restaurants, cafĂ©s, bars and bakeries, this is a great farm-to-fork cafe on the corner of Nicollet and 38th… we were driving by and stopped for brunch one chilly Sunday morning and were impressed… looking for something unique? try their Mushroom & Garrotxa Frittata

Colossal CafĂ© – 2315 Como Ave  or 1340 Grand Ave in St. Saint Paul, MN 55108, (651) 797-4027 or 2403 E 38th St, Minneapolis,, MN 55406,  612-886-3443

A true breakfast cafĂ© , serving breakfast all day every day from 7 am – 3 pm… I still remember the first time we tried to go to their original tiny Minneapolis location with friends and had to move on to bigger digs… love their St. Paul cafĂ© in St. Anthony Park, one of my favorite neighborhoods… now will have to try their new locations in Minneapolis and St. Paul… try their Flappers, house specialty yeast-based pancakes with pure maple syrup

Milda’s Café, 1720 Glenwood Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55405,  (612) 377-9460

This small neighborhood cafe has been known for its simple, home style cooking and personal service since 1965… still family owned, it is open Monday-Friday 6 am – 3 pm, closed Saturday-Sunday… nothing fancy, just simple home-style cooking and personal service… try their homemade cinnamon and caramel rolls and pasties

The Neighborhood Café, 1570 Selby Ave, St Paul, MN 55104, (651) 644-8887

Small neighborhood treasure tucked behind O’Gara’s at the corner of Snelling and Selby in St. Paul… freshly squeezed orange juice, fabulous pancakes, crispy hashbrowns, mimosas, who could ask for anything more… open Sunday-Monday 6:30 am to 3 pm, other days open until 9 pm

The Buttered Tin, 237 7th St E, Saint Paul, MN 55101, (651) 224-2300

Ok, I had to end with a stop that gets numerous awards and is on many top 10 lists but I couldn’t leave it out because this is one I will traverse the metro for… made-from-scratch eats and sweets, even house-ground coffee… open daily 7 am – 3 pm… try their heuvos rancheros benedict and take home some sweet treats
