Let’s Talk Bedding

Specifically let’s talk Master Bedroom bedding. When selling your home the master bedroom and bath is the second most important area in the house in my option, the kitchen being the first. If it comes down to your home our your competition’s……the buyer will probably pick the one with the nicest kitchen and master suite.

The nice thing about it, it’s relatively easy to make the master bedroom special. What’s the focal point of the room in most cases? The bed! Thus let’s talk bedding.

Clean, crisp, pressed/steamed bedding is a given. But many times I recommend to sellers that they purchase new bedding.

I find that most homeowners tend to ignore the Master Bedroom. They will make cute rooms for their kids, fabulous spaces for their guests, but leave their own bedroom untouched for  years because ‘nobody sees it’.

Well you aren’t nobody! (bad grammar I know). 🙂  So if you aren’t selling your home do this now for yourself, treat yourself and enjoy!

Okay back to the bedding. When I advise homeowners to get new bedding I always get the questions, “what color?” “Can it have a pattern?”

First of all buy bedding that you like so you can use it in your new home. Unless you like something very taste specific than nix that.

You want  your Master Bedroom to be the best 5 star boutique hotel room you have ever been in. Soft, soothing, tranquil, inviting, cozy and warm. AAhhhh…….   Camouflage bedding not so much. 🙂

So extreme bold colors, extreme bold patterns, and grandmother’s quilt (even though it is beautifully made) won’t work.

White, cream, blue, teal, and grays will all bring a tranquil feel.

Bedding can have a pattern just make sure it isn’t real busy (small floral) or is a classic pattern. You are usually safe with a geometric pattern.

The bedding does not have to be expensive unless you want it to be. A bed in a bag (which these photos used) can cost $125 or less for 3-7 pieces.

Layering your bedding gives the appearance of luxury. Bed pillows, followed by shammed pillows, then two to three layers of throw pillows.

Bring in some bling, texture or whimsy with the throw pillows. Have fun with it!

If you aren’t selling I encourage you to make your master bedroom a wonderful sanctuary for yourself. Treat yourself, enjoy it and then it will be ready for when you do go to sell!

As always….if you need assistance in getting your home in top selling condition or want to update it for yourself, hire a professional that can give you the correct guidance.
