St. Louis Park… Friends of the Arts at West End

We were hanging out in the lobby waiting for friends before going into the West End theater recently and I was fascinated by all the mosaic discs adorning the wall. It is a permanent art installation created by 100 St. Louis Park individuals and families as part of their biennial community art program and is just one of many examples of public art found throughout the Twin Cities.

The 100 Hands Mosaics were created at workshops held throughout St. Louis Park during the summer of 2014. Made by the hands of individuals and families… children, adults and seniors… from beginners to experts, these many mandalas come to together to tell the story of the St. Louis Park community as a whole. It reflects the diversity, creativity and cooperative spirit of arts and those who live in St. Louis Park.

Arts and culture are important to communities throughout the Twin Cities, and St. Louis Park Friends of the Arts is one great example of building community through the arts… contributing to our excellent quality of life as well as contributing at least $1.5M to the local economy each year.

Quality of life may not be what initially brings people to the Twin Cities… but it keeps them from leaving.
