Excelsior and Grand… walkable urban suburban in St. Louis Park

Excelsior-grand2014-2

St. Louis Park's Excelsior & Grand is one of my favorite 'walkable' neighborhoods. Located in the southeast corner of St. Louis Park bordering Edina and Minneapolis, this redevelopment has an urban village feel with restaurants, coffee shops and shopping at street level and condos and apartments above. It even features the first Trader Joe's neighborhood grocery in the Twin Cities.

The plazas, sidewalks and center parkway make 'Excelsior and Grand' very pedestrian friendly, inviting you to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee or a meal at a sidewalk cafe. Developed in phases between 2001 and 2007, the development is now maturing. It has seen turnover in its street-level businesses and restaurants, but McCoy's is still thriving at the heart of the district, as it has been since the beginning. The site of former restaurants is now a convenient drug store.

The other side of the development borders Wolfe Park, with playgrounds, picnic sites, amphitheater, St. Louis Park Rec Center and swimming pool, fishing.

What I love about this development is that it is not an island unto itself. Excelsior & Grand condos for sale are newer and more upscale, but older and more affordable condos are also available on either side in the same neighborhood… and shopping, restaurants and services continue along the Excelsior corridor from Highway 100 to the Minneapolis border on France Avenue. You can easily walk to Park Nicollet Medical Center or a movie theater from there, and even Target isn't far away.

Whether you are downsizing or buying your first home, St. Louis Park's Excelsior and Grand is worth checking out… both for its walkability and easy access to city lakes and trails… and its easy access to Highway 100 and the rest of the metro area.

Minneapolis lakes homes for sale and Edina homes for sale are also nearby… all great places to live! Contact us for a tour!
