The skating rink at The Depot in downtown Minneapolis has been named one of the top ten best places in the United States to ice skate by the USA Today and MSNBC.
Housed in a historic train shed of the Milwaukee Road railroad on Washington Avenue, it features floor-to-ceiling glass for natural light and city views from the inside… and views of the skaters while driving by.
Most outdoor rinks, such as the 10-acre lake at Centennial Lakes in Edina with its ponds and meandering canals making it feel like a scene out of a Currier & Ives painting, are only maintained through mid-February. Due to the lingering winter this year some outdoor rinks are being maintained through the first weekend in March.
If you would like to extend the season a bit further and not be cooped up in a windowless rink escape to the Depot. This season ends March 20th, see calendar for open dates and times. Hotel guests at the nearby Renaissance and Residence Inn get a 25% discount off admission.
