If you are a home buyer, or thinking about becoming one, you may wonder how you stack up compared to other buyers. Here are some statistics recently released about 2009 buyers I found interesting…
- 49% of Minnesota buyers were first-time home buyers, US average 47%
- 90% of buyers searched online
- Typical buyer searched for 12 weeks and viewed 12 homes
- Median age of Minnesota buyers was 33 years, lower than the national average of 39 (MN breakdown below)
- 18 to 24 years – 10%
- 25 to 34 years – 46%
- 35 to 44 years – 17%
- 45 to 54 years – 15%
- 55 to 64 years – 8%
- 65 to 74 years – 3%
- 75+ years – 2%
- About 2/3 of Minnesota buyers were couples, down from about 3/4 a decade ago, but 61% of Minnesota buyers had no children under 18 living at home (MN breakdown below)
- 55% – married couple
- 23% – single female
- 10% – single male
- 11% – unmarried couple
- 1% – other
More singles are buying than ever, now accounting for about 1/3 of all buyers…and Minnesota has a higher percentage of young buyers age 18-24 years than other parts of the country.
