Tea and chocolate are two of my favorite things, so when I was invited to a tea party at Painted Turtle Chocolatier in Plymouth I was delighted to discover a new stop!
Interestingly enough, I never cared much for chocolate candy as a child, and I still usually pass on milk chocolate. It was only when I discovered more 'pure' handmade chocolates and European dark chocolate that I discovered that I really do love chocolate.
I didn't ask chocolatier Patricia Godfrey what she thought of the movie "Chocolat", but it is what immediately comes to mind when I think of a chocolatier. Learning about Patricia Godfrey's passion did not disappoint. She spent years studying the art of chocolate in Brussels, Tuscany, Vancouver, France and the United States prior to opening her shop and makes all of her delectable treats on site.
She beautifully hand paints some of her chocolates, delicately robes potato chips in chocolate, and combines her love of tea and chocolate by adding finely powdered tea leaves to melted chocolate to create her chocolate tea cups.
Patricia commented how in France there is a chocolate shop on nearly every corner, and they are satisfied with little things. We have become so accustomed to jumbo sized, mass produced food products in this country, it is so refreshing to savor a single, elegantly hand crafted chocolate.
