Sunday’s Site – Crystal Lake West Park, Burnsville

NOTE: see the bottom of Sunday's Site posts for homes for sale in the area

When I visited Burnsville's Crystal Lake on Friday it was an idyllic summer evening. Crystal Beach and neighboring Lac Lavon Park on the east side were abuzz with activity…picnics, playground, swimming, volleyball, softball, tennis were all in full swing and parking lots were full…clear evidence that this is a primary outdoor recreation source for the area.

On the other side of the lake is Crystal Lake West Park. I could feel the difference as soon as I arrived…much quieter with a more relaxed atmosphere. This 52-acre park isn't so much a playground as a place to go 'up to the lake' without leaving the metro area. It features both a boat launch and walking trails through its large natural area with other ponds in addition to the lake.

In the short time I was there the boat launch was alternately busy and quiet, and people were enjoying both getting out on the water and fishing from the shoreline.

When choosing where to live don't forget that what is around you can have a profound effect on you. In Minnesota water is an integral part of our sense of place, and many people choose to live near a lake…some for the relaxing effect and some for the playground effect. With Crystal Lake you have both options…the east side for more activity and the west side for a quieter, more natural retreat.

Crystal Lake is new to me, one I happily explored for a new listing at 52 Maple Island Road. This property is near the trail to Crystal Lake West Park…a great benefit of living there!
