Sunday’s Site – Bailey Nurseries, Newport

NOTE: see the bottom of Sunday's Site posts for homes for sale in the area

Yesterday we were in Cottage Grove, in the southeast corner of the Twin Cities metro area, for our granddaughter's state traveling basketball championship tournament. As we were driving through the area after the game I was struck by the sprawling fields of Bailey Nurseries in neighboring Newport.

Newport-bailey

Although the fields are still snow covered, it won't be long until they are lush with new growth… after all, spring is less than a couple weeks away!

Bailey Nurseries is a fourth-generation family-owned wholesale nursery located on Bailey Road near the Newport-Woodbury border. The plants you select from your local garden center this spring could very well come from here…they supply more than 4,500 independent garden centers, nurseries and landscapers throughout the United States and Canada.

  1. HometownRenter.com has the questions to ask yourself if it is better to rent or buy in your situation. Do you need the flexibility of renting? or can you afford to stay in your home for at least 5 years or longer?

    * Can you afford a 20% down payment?
    * Can you afford a monthly payment on a 30-year fixed mortgage?
    * ask your CPA … Does the tax benefit of home ownership offset a potential decline in home value?
    * Have you reduced other real estate debt before you add more on this home purchase?
    * Does a fixed monthly mortgage payment for the next 15 years outweigh the likely inflation of rents during that same time (called an inflation hedge)

These are broad questions that can have many variations for each individual situation. However, it is a good foundation from which to start your home buying process.
