Sunday’s Site – Hyland Ski & Snowboard Area, Bloomington

NOTE: see the bottom of Sunday's Site posts for homes for sale in the area

With winter delivering the biggest snowfall of the season a few days ago it seems appropriate to visit a ski area this week before winter is gone for another year. It's hard to miss the towering K70 ski jump piercing the skyline near the office complexes across from Bush Lake in the Twin Cities' largest suburb, Bloomington, Minnesota.

Bloom-ski-3vIt is part of the Nordic ski complex that is home base for the Minneapolis Ski Club. Looking across the lake you can see the snow hills of the Hyland Ski & Snowboard Area, known for some of the best snowmaking and grooming in the Midwest. The area features ski and snowboarding hills, lighted cross-country ski and snowshoe trails and the Nordic ski jumping complex. Its large chalet features a food court and equipment rentals.

The ski area is part of Hyland Lake Park Preserve, a great family destination year round. With 1,000 acres of woodlands and prairies, six bodies of water, a nature center, an award-winning creative play area and miles of trails it's hard to believe it is just five minutes from the Mall of America and 17 minutes from downtown Minneapolis.

Located in the one of the nearby buildings you see in the photo  is Kincaid's Fish, Chop & Steak House…consistently voted one of the Twin Cities' best restaurants!
