Every year Money magazine compiles lists of the 100 best places to live, and this year’s list came out a couple weeks ago. It just so happens that the place ranked as the #1 small city for families this year is Plymouth, Minnesota…the city where my real estate office is located. It was pretty exciting when it was announced and then I promptly forgot about it…I think our whole Twin Cities area is a pretty great place to live! In fact, the ‘Best Places’ list includes six other Twin Cities communities as well.
Then I got a message earlier this week from a relocation client…"I can’t think of anyone more deserving to be a real estate agent in the #1 mid-sized city in the nation! Congratulations!" I took that as a sign to not forget about it so quickly…after all, it is an honor to be #1 on a nationwide list and another relocation client this year decided to buy in Plymouth precisely for the reasons it was chosen.
Why was Plymouth chosen as #1? Because of its sense of home and community, including award winning schools, good jobs, affordable housing and low crime. With over 40 parks and more than 100 miles of trails, the outdoors also plays an important role in the community…including a longtime summer outdoor concert series which includes the world-famous Minnesota Orchestra. If you are looking for a ‘green’ community, it has been said that Plymouth has a ‘green’ stipe running down its back, including a ‘green’ roof on a new city hall addition.
Housing prices are considered to be affordable according to Money magazine, click here for current market conditions and average sale prices. Builders were required to set aside a part of each development as public space and as a result there are many public parks and playgrounds in the area.
